The Girl I Left Behind Me

It’s our SEVENTY-FIFTH Old Timey Tuesday! Every week, we’ve brought you folk songs, country tunes, sacred harp, hymns, Irish melodies, maritime shanties, bluegrass high lonesomes, train songs, cowboy singalongs, and even some original stuff by us folks. Today’s tune dates back to Elizabethan England, likely sung by soldiers and sailors. It made it’s way to America and was adopted by US soldiers during the War of 1812 and became a downright pop song by the Civil War, particularly on the Union Side. It’s been rewritten, reworded, and repurposed for centuries (see if you can find the NSFW WW I version from the Brits...) We love it because the chorus is so damn catchy, plus the girl’s name is partial to the She’s Folks crew. Stay ‘til the end to catch our potential new tag line...
