Wild Mountain Thyme

Wild Mountain Thyme or Will Ye Go Lassies Go is a Scottish folk song written in 1957 by Francis McPeake who used a poem by Robert Tannahill, "The Braes of Balquhither" which Tannahill may have actually adapted from the old song, "The Braes O'Bowhether." Ah folk music, where borrowing isn't just acceptable, it's encouraged. All that to say, it's a beautiful tune and just right for this time of year. Will ye go?

LYRICS:
The summer time's a comin'
And the leaves are sweetly blooming
And the wild mountain thyme
Grows around the blooming heather
Will ye go lassies go?

And we'll all go together
To pick wild mountain thyme
All around the blooming heather
Will ye go lassies go?

I will build my love a tower
By yon pure crystal fountain
And around the thyme will pile
And all the flowers of the mountain
Will you go lassies go?

And we'll all go together
To pick Wild Mountain Thyme
All around the blooming heather
Will you go lassies go?

If my true love she won't have me
I will surely find another
To pick wild mountain thyme
All around the blooming heather
Will you go lassies go?

And we'll all go together
To pick wild mountain thyme
All around the blooming heather
Will you go lassies go?
