New Railroad

Old Timey Tuesdays return! We’re back from break with an old railroad tune called “New Railroad.” Sometimes referred to as “Working on the New Railroad” or “I’ve Been All Around This World,” it’s a folk song with many different verses compiled over a century. We picked a few that tooted our train whistles.

The railroad we’ve been working on is our favorite show of the year: Fixed Abode III: A Variety Show Hosted by Tyler Thompson! Fixed Abode is an artistic response to the global refugee crisis.  This time, She’s Folks is teaming up with the likes of Praytell, Wild Earp, Hillary Marren, Sharriese Hamilton, and many others to raise money for GirlForward, “a community of support dedicated to creating and enhancing opportunities for girls who have been displaced by conflict and persecution.” According to the wonderful folks at GirlForward, “We are in the midst of the biggest refugee crisis the world has ever seen. Over 60 million people worldwide have been forced to flee their homes. In conflict, girls are especially vulnerable to violence, isolation, and being kept out of school. Girls who receive resettlement in the United States face huge challenges: poverty, language barrier, limited or disrupted education, isolation, and trauma. But when girls succeed, everyone benefits.” We are thrilled that we will be joined onstage by some of the Girls themselves who will help us bear witness to the most pressing and important crisis of our time. January 26, $30, Open Bar. Bang Bang Pie & Biscuits. Half Acre Beer Company. Low Res Studio. Plus you can enter to win Hamilton tickets and ALL the proceeds go to help refugee girls living in Chicago.
