Lorena

Old Timey Tuesdays! Tyle and Bets share an 1856 tune that was written about bein' in love with an Ohio girl, AND it was first published right here in Chicago. Just warms those Midwestern cockles of m'heart.  It was very popular during the Civil War era, particularly with soldiers pining for their girlfriends back home.  This song has a long history in film, as public domain numbers are wont to do. However, the beautiful melody of "Lorena" transcends the period from whence it came.   It appears in The Searchers, The Horse Soldiers, Gone With the Wind, Lonesome Dove, Ken Burns' Civil War, and even Cowboys and Aliens.
However you look at it, I figure there are worse things you could do than fall in love with an Ohio girl.
