Old Timey Tuesdays*: Katie Dear (Silver Dagger Song)

It's once again Old Timey Tuesday! Today Alex Newkirk, Ted Kitterman, my cat, and I dig into "Katie Dear", otherwise known as "The Silver Dagger Song." 2260 and 2261 in the Roud system, this ballad goes by many other names including "The Drowsy Sleeper," "Molly Dear," and "Awake, Awake Ye Drowsy Sleepers." Personally, I'm partial to the melody. Even though this piece dates back hundreds of years, the message is clear: Parents just don't understand.

Up next for the Folks: The Broad-Way: a cabaret fundraiser for Brown Paper Box Co. Alex Newkirk, Khaki Pixley, Tyler Thompson and I will perform a few of our women-written faves including She's Folks' "The Threshold." http://www.brownpaperbox.org/the-broad-way.html

*On Old Timey Tuesdays we feature folk, bluegrass, country, blues, ballads, and work songs we love. Some we grew up singin'. Some we've discovered along the way. We hope you love them too.
